About Anthony

Atty. Anthony Remo Luna got into law because he wanted to help people and because he enjoys challenges.  However, Mr. Luna is no stranger to challenges.  Growing up in the Bay Area, Mr. Luna excelled at sports including basketball, football, paintball and snowboarding.  Mr. Luna is currently enrolled in a Yaw Yan kickboxing class where he practices diligently two to three times a week.  Mr. Luna has always enjoyed challenges and tries to excel at whatever he does.  

Mr. Luna holds Bachelor of Science degrees in both Management and Marketing from San Francisco State University and went to the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, where he graduated with honors and was appointed a member of the Traynor Honor Society.  In addition, Mr. Luna received a coveted Witkin Award for studies conducted in International Banking. 

After graduating from law school, Mr. Luna worked in a boutique civil litigation and general practice firm in Fresno, CA and then went on to work with a couple of different Workers' Compensation firms in the Bay Area (doing both applicants and defense side work).

In 2014, Mr. Luna formed the Law Offices of Anthony Remo Luna because he wanted to be able to better serve his clients and his community and in 2015, due to success and expansion, he co-founded the firm Luna & Sutherland, LLP with Atty. Ryan Sutherland.  

In 2016, Mr. Luna received invitation to join The National Trial Lawyers Association: Top 40 Under 40 group.  Membership into The National Trial Lawyers Association: Top 40 Under 40 is extended solely to the select few of the most qualified attorneys from each state who demonstrate superior qualifications of leadership, reputation, influence, stature and public profile measured by objective and uniformly applied standards in compliance with state bar and national Rule 4-7.  Invitees must exemplify superior qualifications, trial results, and leadership as a young lawyer under the age of 40.  Selection is based on a thorough multi-phase objective process which includes peer nominations combined with third-party research.  

In 2017, Mr. Luna was certified as a member to join the Million Dollar Advocates Forum.  The Million Dollar Advocates Forum is recognized as one of the most prestigious groups of trial lawyers in the United States. Membership is limited to attorneys who have won million and multi-million dollar verdicts, awards and settlements. The organization was founded in 1993 and there are approximately 3000 members located throughout the country. Fewer than 1% of U.S. lawyers are members. Forum membership acknowledges excellence in advocacy, and provides members with a national network of experienced colleagues for professional referral and information exchange in major cases. Members must have acted as principal counsel in at least one case in which their client has received a verdict, award or settlement in the amount of one million dollars or more.    


After earning his undergraduate degree from San Francisco State University in 2003, and Juris Doctor from Whittier Law School in 2006, Mr. Sutherland first practiced criminal law for 3 years as a Deputy District Attorney in Madera County, California.  He then worked as a workers’ compensation defense attorney for several years, representing several major employers and insurance companies.  He is now proud to represent injured workers’ in their workers’ compensation cases at the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Boards.  In 2016, Mr. Sutherland was awarded the Clients' Choice Award from Avvo.com, passed the California Workers' Compensation Legal Specialist Examination and was inducted into membership with the California Applicants' Attorneys Association.  Mr. Sutherland is currently a State Bar of California Certified Workers’ Compensation Specialist. 

While in law school, Mr. Sutherland served as an editor on the Whittier Law Review for 2 years.  Mr. Sutherland also completed a judicial externship while in law school, serving as a legal research assistant to Presiding Justice David G. Sills at the Court of Appeal, Fourth District, Division III, in Santa Ana, California.  After graduating, Mr. Sutherland also completed an internship with the San Francisco Public Defenders’ Office.  

When away from work, Mr. Sutherland enjoys meditation, tennis, running, backpacking, books, and spending time with friends and family.


Atty. Irving Hirsch was born in Oakland, California and attended the University of California at Berkeley graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1956.  After serving in the United States Army, Mr. Hirsch began working for General Motors Corporation as an administrator of the Self Insured Workers' Compensation program and during that time attended Golden Gate University College of Law, graduating in 1966. Upon graduation, Mr. Hirsch commenced his 38 year relationship with Hanna, Brophy, McLean, McAleer and Jensen (“H & B”), a well-known and highly respected Workers’ Compensation and Employment defense firm.  At H & B Mr. Hirsch opened and managed the Bakersfield and Salinas offices and for several years managed the Fresno office.  Mr. Hirsch retired from H & B as a Senior Partner on December 31, 2000.  In 2001, however, Mr. Hirsch continued practicing part time for H & B, until 2005 when he decided to use his vast knowledge, experience and skills on the injured worker/applicant side.  Mr. Hirsch has since represented injured workers/applicants and is currently of-counsel to Luna & Sutherland, LLP.   

Mr. Hirsch has previously served as a judge pro-tem and is an approved workers compensation arbitrator.  He was also previously appointed to the Workers' Compensation Law Advisory Commission of the State Bar's Legal Specialization Program and has been a Certified Workers’ Compensation Specialist since 1972.  Mr. Hirsch has been married for 51 years enjoys spending time with his wife, three adult children and four grandchildren.


After spending five years working as an attorney for a large insurance company, Mr. Abaya felt a nagging feeling - a feeling that he wanted his legal work to stand for something more. That feeling led him to Luna & Sutherland, and Mr. Abaya is now ready to zealously and diligently represent clients from all walks of life. The son of Navy veteran and a registered nurse, Mr. Abaya has been guided with three core values since birth - honor, commitment, and empathy.

Mr. Abaya is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and minors in Business and Public Policy. He attended law school at the University of California at Davis (King Hall) where he served as Senior Articles Editor for the UC Davis Law Review. Mr. Abaya also spent time during law school working at the UC Davis Family Law Clinic and as a counselor for the King Hall Outreach Program. Mr. Abaya is the recipient of a Witkin Award in Housing Law, and the Sacramento County Bar Association’s Diversity Fellowship Award. 

In addition to working as in house counsel, Mr. Abaya spent one year as an associate attorney at a boutique insurance defense litigation firm working on general civil matters. 

In his spare time, Mr. Abaya enjoys traveling, camping, hiking, reaching personal fitness goals, and trying (i.e. eating) different types of cuisines.
